KVK, West Garo Hills organized training for women farmers’ group on “Low cost scientific pig farming”
A day long training programme on “Low cost scientific pig farming” was conducted for women by KVK, West Garo Hills, Meghalaya on 28th June 2017 in Gangbhanga village under Dalu block of West Garo Hills district. All the 20 participants of the training programme were the members of a Women’s Development Group of Gabhanga village. The group was formed in 2015 with 20 nos women and actively engaging themselves in vegetable cultivation and making of tuber and banana chips. KVK, Tura implemented one tuber processing unit for the group in the year 2016. As low cost investment in small scale livestock keeping offers opportunities for women to increase their household income and thus able to reduce gender inequality, the said training programme was organized to make aware the members for strengthening their income generation through livestock farming. Rearing of pigs in Garo Hills, is an important activity for livelihood security for the tribal farmers, though the farmers lack knowledge about scientific management of pigs. Experts from KVK tried to make the participants understand the importance of scientific rearing of pigs so that they become able to get the maximum level of pig’s productivity. The programme was ended with the vote of thanks by Ms Anita Marak, secretary of the group.
